An advertising representative contacted me the other day about an ad I was running. Charlie was traveling for business. While waiting at the airport, his wallet was stolen.
So he had no money, no credit cards and no identification.
What he did have—was a great attitude!
Rather than being completely bummed out, Charlie decided to see his experience as an adventure. He knew he could succeed and saw the setback as a great challenge.
No ID—couldn't get on an airplane.
Had to take a long bus ride to his destination.
He still had his cellphone and charger….so he was able to contact some friends to have money wired to him.
His adventure continued as he tried to pick up the money from Western Union without identification. After a long process, they finally gave him his money.
Without going into all the details, Charlie attempted to check into 8 hotels—to no avail.
No ID, no credit card—no hotel room.
Hotel # 9 finally allowed Charlie to check in with cash—even though he was looking pretty disheveled by then!
Charlie had so many reasons to feel badly—but he chose to be positive and not be a victim of his circumstances.
I spoke with Charlie after he made it to his destination.
After encountering so many obstacles, he was still upbeat and positive!
Next time you're having a bad day—cheer up.
You can choose to feel great—no matter what happens.
Your attitude and your response to circumstances is your choice.
“In the long run, we shape our lives, and we shape ourselves. The process never ends until we die. And the choices we make are ultimately our own responsibility.” ~Eleanor Roosevelt
