6 Ways To Stay Positive in a Negative World…& a Free Guided Meditation

I rescue animals.Darby
Because I see many horrible, cruel, sad things happening to innocent animals—I find it's easy to become depressed and negative.
However, it's hard to continue to rescue animals when I'm in a negative mood or depressed.
So what's a gurl to do???

1)  Of course, Meditation really helps.
I put on my headset and listen to a guided Meditation with Brainwave Entrainment and, Voila!…..I feel much better in a short time.

2)  Stop listening to the news!
When was the last time you heard news that was positive and made you feel good?  Maybe—never?!
So limit your exposure to the news.
Just read the headlines so you can stay current…..but don't read the gory details that will bring you down.

3)  Here's a biggie… Limit your time around negative folks.
You know who they are.  Perhaps close friends or relatives?  Right.
It's their choice to see everything negatively….and it's your choice to stay away from them.
Their words and attitudes are poison and can ruin your whole day….or week.
If you try to steer the conversation into a positive subject and they refuse to go there….just send them love and let them go.

4)  If you've got access to an animal—cat, dog, rabbit, horse—pet, walk or ride them.
Just being around innocent animals is healing and can change a tough day into a sweet day.TrigandSampson2013-3
My cats LOVE for me to take a nap.
They will immediately snuggle with me and purr.
It's pretty hard to stay in a negative frame of mind when an animal is loving on you!

5)  Another solution to negativity is….GO OUTSIDE!
Take a walk in nature and be thankful for the beauty.
Bring a dog.  Great for you and the dog.
Don't have a dog??  Borrow one from a neighbor.  Your neighbor will be pleased.

It's pretty hard to be in a negative mood when you're surrounded by uplifting, positive conversations.
Do your friends bring out the best in you?   Or the worst?Happiness

Being Positive is a conscious decision.
You can choose to be either Positive or Negative.

Here is a Free Guided Meditation that will help you to stay positive.
Put on your headset or earbuds and give it a listen, OK?  It's just 15 minutes.

Sooooo….what do you think?  Can you see yourself practicing these 6 ways to stay positive and listening to the meditation….Or is it too overwhelming?
Feel free to share your thoughts, below.

  1. Limiting exposure to news is actually a step I took for myself since every day i would lose hope in humanity. There is so much negativity but at the same time there are probably even more stories that are positive with people working hard to make a difference in the world today.

    1. So glad you’re limiting exposure to news. It can be pretty depressing. I rescue animals and I’m always amazed when I find out about cruelty to animals. Then, on the other hand, there are some wonderful angels out there risking their lives, spending their last dime, to save innocent animals. I really need to focus on the good….or I’ll spend my days crying. Thanks for your comments!

  2. Your site got me thinking of the ways I deal with stress. I usually clear my mind of all distractions and just breathe a few minutes. I really don’t mediate on any particular thing.

I do often walk my dog and I do agree with keeping positive people around you. I believe if you allow negative people to bend your ear, it makes it hard to see positivity in anything. I think the news is the most negative thing we allow in our lives and I hate watching the news.

I like to use exercise and riding the bicycle or motorcycle, for my outdoor activity to relax as well.

I didn’t care for the video it didn’t work for me to relax, it made me want to change it, but everyone is different and you have to find what works for you and stress.

    Have a great day,

    1. Hey Robert—I’m sorry the video didn’t work for you. I get it….I listened to a Guided Meditation once and it totally stressed me out. Please don’t give up on meditation. I’m sure there are a lot of Meditations that you could listen to and really enjoy. I’m listening to this one as I work today. Don’t bother with the headset, if you don’t want to.
Thanks for writing. I appreciate your comments. Good luck and I hope you find the perfect Meditation for you. BTW…my dog and cats love this Meditation. They’re all “Zen’d out”!

  3. You are so right about this. There are a lot of things in this world that can bring down even the happiest, and positive-minded people. The news is the largest thing that can do this, and some commercials is another one. I like to watch T.V., and it never fails, they always slip a sad commercial about abused and sad-looking children and animals. Now I’m the kind of person that is heart-broken, and upset when I see how cruel and evil people can be to innocent defenseless creatures. When you stay away from information such as this, does it always work? I mean, you HAVE to look at them and I know that the images of these abused animals must burn themselves into your memory. How do you get rid of them? How do you NOT think about them? Me, I don’t think that I can handle it, but thank God for the ones who can. Great work!

    1. Thanks for your reply, Retha. I rescue animals and I’m always posting pics on Facebook of homeless, injured, sad animals. The only way I can endure the thought of these poor animals is by Meditating everyday. The animals need for us to be a voice for them….so I think of them and their needs and keep plugging away. Awareness is key…but we must remain positive in a tough world. I especially like to post stories / videos of wonderful angels rescuing animals. Lots of heroes out there. I focus on the heroes and what we can do—not what we can’t do. I’ve got free meditations posted on my blog. Check them out and stay positive!

  4. I appreciate “Get the life you want now”. In a few weeks, I’ll be 78. I’ve tried to be as positive as I could be over most of it and your suggestions ring true. Unfortunately I’m a glutton for news, good or bad, as I thrive in knowing what’s going on but I discovered 50 years ago that the company of a dog soothes the soul.
I imagine a cat does the same!

    1. Hi Bill! You are so right….the company of a dog really soothes the soul. I rescue animals and right now I have 4 cats and 1 dog. I must admit….I like to take naps from time-to-time. When I rest, the bed is filled with fuzzy animals. I love it! When I meditate in the morning, I sit on the floor. The animals are right there. I think they can hear the guided meditations through my headset. The purring is good for them….and for me. Have you ever had a cat? They’re all very different and quite wonderful.

  5. Hi Diane,

What a joy to read your post, ‘6 Ways To Stay Positive in a Negative World & a Guided Meditation.’

Happy to say that I do everything on your list on a daily basis! This is how I live my life!

I live smack in the middle of 1200 hectares of urban wilderness, and that, in and of itself, brings an incredible amount of joy. To walk in the forest or watch the sky at dawn remind me that there is a lot more positives in this world than negatives.

It’s always what we choose to focus on isn’t it?

    Wonderful read…thank you!

    Heather 🙂

    1. Heather….you’re a breath of fresh air! So great to hear that your enjoy nature so much. It truly is healing. And yes…it is our choice to focus on the positive or the negative. Sometimes it’s a struggle for me. There are way to many negative people in my life….but I’m working on that! A great lesson for me. Thanks for stopping by. ~ Diane

  6. Hi there Diane,

I like that you pointed out that being with your pets and actually bond with them, can make a person feel more positive. I have an old dog and recently adopted a handicap cat (she thinks she’s perfect though) and it seems like I am their whole world.

In the human world where you are taken advantage of or under appreciated sometimes, it’s very comforting to know that you mean something to some four legged creature and they treat you like a queen.

I know it sounds weird, but those feelings can be very motivating and help you see your current situation in a better light.

    1. Thank you, Cathy, for your love of the old dog and your special needs cat. You’re an angel to care for them and I know your rewards are very big for your kindness. I really don’t know what I’d do without my rescued cats and dogs. So much unconditional love….and they have no judgment. I wish humans could be as loving as our pets. I try. Thanks for your comment. I hope you will come back to enjoy more of my posts.

  7. Hi, I do not meditate, I downloaded you meditations, will give it a try. I have worked for the same company for 34 years. A Few years ago I thought I was having heart attack due to all text stress being around so many negative people. I realized I had to change, I statred praying and focusing only on my job. Today, I can say I am doing better because I changed who to associate with. I will try your medication to help improve my well being. Thanks, Debdanc

    1. I’m so sorry to hear about your stressful situation. I truly hope you will find peace and health through meditating. You don’t have to spend a lot of time meditating. You’ll find quite a few short meditations on my blog. Thanks for visiting and please come back and let me know how you’re doing. Thanks! ~ Diane
